I'm thinking about adding a few dive planners to my website, but I'm tad concerned that I'd be infringeing on copyrights. What do you think, yah or nah? I couldn't find any reference to a copyright on YMCA's tables, but PADI's RDP does have it stamped on it. I haven't looked at the Navy tables yet, but I've seen it on other sites.

Hello Warhammer,
I think it's a great idea to post a dive planner. As for copyright infringments, can't help on that one. It sure would be easy to E-Mail PADI and ask, all they could say is no. They might even give you permission to use their RDP. Good luck.

Hye Warhammer -

I happen to know a lot a about this subject.
You should request a written permission to reproduce and material you are not the original author of, so that includes tables. Even if you get it from a different source - say pointing to another web site, that web site could potentially be unhappy that you are pointing traffic to a specific location in the site, thereby making visitor bypass the advertisement scheme that makes them money...

My recommendation is to ask all agencies for explicit written permission to use. You are likely to get it since
a) you are spreading the word of their good stuff.
b) the purpose is educational and not for financial gain.
c) the materials are not hard to obtain from other sources - so they are likely not too tuff about DRM issues (DRM = Digital Rights Management).

HTH,

Terkel

Anybody got a good copy of the Aqualand Graph disk? Mine's defective and I can't find a source with Citizen.
(This is ok - I have the watch and I have the disk and I have the rights to use the software - but a bad copy)
Thanks,
Rick
