Do any of you have a dive personna that isn't really like you in real life? In real life, I'm quiet, serious, hard to get to know, and introverted. When I dive, I am relatively talkative, sometimes funny, and develop friendships really quickly. I'm thinking maybe because diving makes you talk about things you'd never talk about with say people at work (like whether you pee in your wetsuit or announcing you are going to look for a bush) and request rather strange things (getting zips or borrowing sox). When I tell my dive friends what I'm really like, they laugh and give me the "OH SURE!" attitude. Does anybody else feel this way or have any thoughts?

My scuba name is Silent Bob, because I never shut up unless I'm underwater.

I'm pretty much the same in "real" life as I am in "diving" life..
As far as personality, in real life I'm pretty quiet and tend to keep to myself.. but since I'm president of my dive shop's dive club I HAVE to be somewhat outgoing and social, which is tough sometimes.. It's just not my nature.. but I do my best :)

That's quite similar to how I am. I'm really quite shy, unless I'm at work or diving. There is a real cameraderie (sp?) with most divers.

I think I´m a "better" me when I dive.
I´m harder to offend, willing to go the extra mile to help people I´ve never met before, happier and more relaxed...

I think some of that is because I somehow assume that divers are "good people", even in "regular life" I´m more inclined to help divers than other strangers...

DITTO!!! i couldnt have said it better myself!!!!!!!!

I am outgoing and extroverted everywhere but underwater... there my only focus is on my filming and ensuring I survive to dive another day. People who have met me would probably verify that I am very outgoing and enjoy sharing my knowledge of marine biology and diving with others (I guess it is the teacher in me).

Of course 99% of my life is diving or dive related... at least of my waking hours!

I am a respectable person in real life.

I am a big joke "One Dive Wonder" in the dive world.

I don't talk much. :068:

Diving is my life. There is little time to be anyone else and if while I may have been different than the diving me way back when it is all the same now. It's been great diving has certainly boosted my confidence and helped me become more outgoing, but at this point... all I do is dive or work in the dive shop or hang out with my friends from diving. Most of my friends that don't dive now know my diver friends well and some that didn't dive, now do... *sigh* When I work the occassional day in another industry, strangely enough, the people I work with also happen to be avid divers. So it's become not only hard to switch gears, but almost unnecessary. This is me. Yay!
