If you going to Grand Cayman mainly for the diving, I recommend the Cayman Dive Lodge www.divelodge.com. It's on the east end away from the tourists and cruise ships and therefore accessible to unspoiled dive sites. The lodge caters exclusively to divers with meals included which are excellent, friendly and knowledgeable staff , good roomy boats ,etc. If you want to get into Georgetown for the tourist bit , you can rent a car or take public transportation.
Been there twice and planning on going again. Great diving!!

Planning a trip to Grand Cayman, need some help picking a dive operator to book with and advice on which ones to stay away from. Need " THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY" Thanks Jimmyboy
Have you already decided where you are staying?

Sunset Divers at Sunset House are literally just a few feet down the road from the Seaview, so you might consider diving there, its an excellent shop. By the by, the restaurant at the Seaview, the Naked Fish is one of my favorites on Cayman. Major good eats!!!! :07:

It is a bit of a drive from Seaview to CDL so you might not want to do that everyday, though it's a way to do East End diving. If you're going to head down to that end of the island to dive you might also consider Ocean Frontiers.

I don't know the current boat diving arrangements from Seaview if any, but Sunset isn't a bad alternative if you want something close. The Manta is a nice trip if you can do it.

I've had good luck with Treasure Island Divers, (http://www.tidivers.com/index.html) but I'll admit I've only been to GC twice, and haven't used anyone else. A buddy of mine swears by Cayman Marine Lab, (http://www.caymanmarinelab.com/index.htm) heavy on the education on surface intervals, from what I hear.
Both are West side operations.

Well, if you staying at the SeaView, and the on-site op is TI, I'd go with them.
I've used them before, no problems, large boats and we dove some sites along the SW side that were really cool.
Plus if you were to get their unlimited dive package, you'd get 2 morning boat dives and then 2 afternoon boat dives and tanks for shore diving. I don't remember what nights the boat night dives we on, but we did 2 the week we were there.
I use them again anytime.....

We were there at the end of May, beginning of June and Dove with Don Fosters - also in your area.

We would return to them in heartbeat. Never more than 8 divers on the boats (might have been the time of year). Big comforatable boats too! The staff were awesome. Very friendly and very accomodating to our requests. Each day started with "Where would like to go today?"

As for unlimited diving - they simply have THE BEST pacakage on the island. We dove the inlimited and you can do 2 tanks in the AM, 1 in the afternoon, unlimited shore diving, night dives (they go out twice per week or any other day they have enough divers interested) PLUS you could go to stingray city with them in the afternoons as many times as you wanted!

The only "slight" draw back is the afternoon dives can sometimes have cruise shippers on them. It was never a problem for us though, I think the most we ever had was 6. The crew knew we were competant so they dropped us in the water first, we cleared the area (going the other way), and we were always back well after the cruise shippers had gulped thier air!

I can't say enough about how good the op is - and they really have great value! They will also pick you up and drop you off each day - free of charge. heck, they'll even run you to Burger King between dives!!!
