Planning a tip to Cancun in May. Any advice on transportation to hotel from airport and Dive Operator suggestions would be a great help.

Thanks,:jester:

I should also add, there is a post lower down that has a few good names - ScubaMex and a shop starting with a B - sorry can't remember the exact name off the top of my head. I have never dove with them, but as you might have guessed we experienced AquaWorld first hand a few years ago.

My husband and I went to Cancun in February and
checked out a few dive operations....
I highly suggest Manta Divers. They were not
crowded and gave us super personal treatment.
I agree with most everyone on this post that Aqua World is
a huge cattle boat operation!!!
Blue Peace and Scuba Cancun were a bit on the crowded
side.
Manta Divers are located in the hotel strip at the top
of the 7 next to Fat Tuesdays. They gave us wonderful
personal service and we did not have to deal with crowds.
If you are going to take a day trip to Cozumel or
the Cenotes then I highly recommend contacting
Dive Knights. This dive operation is fairly new but they
are Highly experienced as they have broken off from
other dive operations. Carlos and Javier. Javier is
very experienced in the Cenotes and we felt very
safe with them. Carlos took us to Cozumel, picked us
up at the hotel and took care of everything from there
on out!!!
Dive Knights can be contacted at cavernknight@prodigy.net.mx
or dive04@yahoo.com.mx ,,,, tell them Maurita sent you.
Their prices are VERY good too!
Manta divers have a website ... I think it is www.mantadiver.com
Good Luck and have fun!

Agree 110% with Scuba Dave about Aqua World. They are the definition of Cattle Boat. After one trip we Aqua World we switched over to Solo Buceo. Boats weren't the greatest, but the divemasters and crew were great. I would definitely recommend them.

Just got back last night from Cancun after a relaxing 10-day vacation.

Transportation from airport to hotel:
- I used the internet and booked through www.Cancun-Reservations.com. Cost was $8.50 (US) per person.

Transportation once you're there:
- Don't even think about a rental car as the bus is THE way to get around. Cost is 6 pesos per person and there are so many buses you never wait more than 1-3 minutes. We only took a taxi once and the cost was 70 pesos.

Transportation from hotel to airport:
- Our concierge booked a shuttle for us (taxi is cheaper but not enough room for all our luggage). The cost was $35 (US).

Dive Shops:
- Based on Maurita's feedback, I too dove with Manta Divers in Cancun (www.mantadivers.com), which included obtaining my Advanced Open Water certification. My instructor Juan was excellent! Dive sites included Aristos, Punta Negra, Grampin (twice), Punta Cancun, C-58 wreck, Banderas, Sanwich (night), and C-55 wreck. Largest group was nine divers with 2 guides. Smallest group was me and Juan for the night dive.
- Manta booked my day-trip to Cozumel with Dive Knights (Javier). Operator in Cozumel was Caballito Del Caribe (www.seahorsecozumel.com). 8 divers was a bit crowded considering 4 of the divers had very little experience and kept banging into me. (They booked through Scuba Cancun with Carlos) The reefs made it all worth while though (Palancar Gardens & El Paso Cedral).

I'll be submitting a trip report in the next few days, perhaps with some pictures. (... if they turn out)

 My husband and I just got back from Cozumel..staying at Sol
Cabanas Del Caribe..quiet and located on the beach..very nice..
The dive shop was Sea Scuba,,the owner is Dave Tovar..Small
groups (4) people at a time and fast boats..great dive guides and
nice slow dives..no rush to get to the surface !! Surface intervals
were relaxed and fun.. I just certified and I was a bit nervous..they
made me feel safe and secure and showed my everything from
sharks to the tiniest crabs..They were super!
