I am a third year medical student interested in Dive Medicine. Does anyone know if there is a dive medicine program in California. I would like to do a rotation in dive medicine as a senior elective.

There is an advanced dive medicine school in Santa Barbra but it's prolly a little lower level than what your looking for. How about doing hyperbarics? Huge future in it now that it is recognised as a treatment for 13 if I rember right, medical conditions including cancer chemo therapy.

Check out the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, http://www.uhms.org/, and contact Divers Alert Network, http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/. They can put you in touch with what you are looking for. Also, there is a well known chamber on Catalina Island that may be affiliated with a teaching program.

There's also the NOAA course which is 2 weeks long. It's given I belieive, twice a year. You can find out more on the UHMS site.

Perhaps the UCSD Occupational Medicine Dept. can offer something. Diving medicine is part of this department.
