Hey everyone. I have a group who wants to dive at Haigh Quarry Sunday June 26. We need to have a Dive Master with us. Is anyone interested? Please contact me by PM and I will fill you in on the details. Thanks. :D

Are you asking for someone to do check out dives or do you have a group of inexperienced divers that need some hand holding? A dive Master is kind of a strange request outside of the charter environment.

Can't wait to hear the answer to this one!!!

Denny! I think you scared them away!!!!!

Man, I hope not; I'm really curious as to why Kjackson60 wants any Dive Master to just show up at Haigh. Aren't you a Dive Master, Mike? or maybe you're even way beyond that cert.

I'm kinda interested in the "why" of this request, too.

Come on, Kjackson60---fess up and give us the details for the DM request.

I must confess, I am somewhat mystified and amused by the "Conspiracy Theory" tone that this thread has generated. The group in question is a youth group. For us to dive as a youth group we need to have a Dive Master with us for our liability insurance to be in force. As far as the divers, all are at a minimum Open Water with many having completed AOW. Most of them have been diving either in the Great Lakes, the Caribbean or Wreck Alley off of North Carolina. We do have three new divers that will require a closer watch but the rest of them are very capable.

The use of Dive Masters as escorts at inland lakes/quarries may seem strange, but we have been doing it for several years. As I mentioned above, it is a requirement for insurance. It is also great to have a professional with us to ensure that we conduct a safe program. The Dive Masters are compensated if they choose to be. The rate of compensation and the anticipated duties of the Dive Master is determined by the sponsoring Dive Shop or, if an independent Dive Master, by the Dive Master and the adults involved with the outing.

Sorry, no area 51 aliens SCUBA Diving. At least, not that weekend. :D

Great explaination! Thanks for sharing with us. I am sure you will easily find a Dive Master in the area to work with the group.

I think it is natural tendency for the internet to always think there is some scheme behind a question. Hopefully Denny and Randy didn't scare you off! Ha ha! They are a great bunch of guys!
