Packing my last bit of stuff and was wondering what light(s) I should bring.

Have a 10w HID can, and two small sized Princeton Tec LEDs.

Here in NJ Wreck Diving the rule of thumb is "every dive is a night dive" so I dive with the HID every dive.

What would local conditions call for on a day of boat diving and a day of shore diving at the casino?

Appreciate any thoughts or insights you might have.

I dive with a 21 wt HID can every dive day or night - including at the casino last weekend. Do I need it? I think so. In addition to the DIR reasons for having a can it also comes in handy. There are several wrecks worth looking in and under in the park and lots of holes in the reefs with eels and other neat critters. Having said that many people dive the casino with no light at all.

The Casino is a cool night dive. Wouldn't dream of it w/o a can.

I completely agree with Jim.

I always dive with my can light, but it's not necessary during a day dive at the park. If you get anywhere into the early evening, because the sun is going down so early, I would recommend having it.

Yep, that was what they reported at the Dive Park today (although not by local divers so estimate's reliability uncertain).

PM sent on lights in response to yours, RJP.

I find that it's really nice having my 21W HID can light and I don't dive without it. There is a tremendous amount of color that disappears at depth and the HID really brings out the best of it. It's also nice to be able to clearly look in all of the nooks and crannies around the reef.

I think that you'll really be happier if you bring the 10W can light.

Hey, you guys are blinding all those poor critters with your HID lights... and I'm jealous, I want one too.
