As far as knives go, ditch your blade and opt for some EMT shears. They work much better on monofilament, though they don't do much to impress the chicks... :11:

Who the hell flies with lead?

A lot of people. hard lead and soft. It shows up on the x-ray as a shield alarm (something that can't be seen through) and as such is an automatic physical search.

Knives, shears and GI Joe's weapons (yes, it's true) go in the cargo hold. We brought our wedding machete (don't ask) back from Reunion (near Mauritius) OK.

The problem is having to unpack our regulators which travels in the cabin luggage each and every time we go through an airport metal detector

On this topic. I had the carnival cruise ship take my knife away after coming back from a dive in mexico. We got it on in mobile, Al but it was noticed when boarding in mexico. They gave it back to us at the end of the trip. It was somewhat of an inconvience because we had to go through about 4-5 people before someone brought it out to us.

You don't :P :D

I don't go on trips expecting company xyz to have what I need or prefer. I dive 6 lbs in my trim pockets on my BC and 10 in my quick release. I carry two 5lb clip on weights even though I never use them and usually end up loaning them out to other divers.

And it's not like it's a lot of weight...I know guys whose wives take more weight in shoes than I do in lead :D

Ahhhh you've met MY wife huh?

....snip...

Standard here is 5kg max carry on and 20kg max hold luggage so flying with lead is not an option open to most/anyone. My full dive gear minus tanks and weights is 14kg. That doesnt leave much space for clothes and other essentials for a holiday.

:bigun2: So My AT-4 goes in carry on or checked Luggage :D

I think you just carry it in your hands, noone's gonna stop you. :god:

Also, when I left for Taiwan 2 weeks ago I ACCIDENTLY left my knife attached to my bc... and no one caught me. Also the reg in my carry on just went right through the checkpoint... no alarm sound, no double-check, nothing. Cheers :14:

here you cant even get on a plane if you have nail clippers but we can take hubby's camera gear complete with metal arms thingys (im sure there is a techincal word but i dont listen anymore) without a problem. So knives def goes as checkin.

just be careful if, like me, you take your lead shot ankle weights as carry on... if the weights roll themselves up into a very particular shape - you get very funny looks from the xray people! i was begging them to let me open the bag and show them my ankle weights and they kept saying "its ok mamm, you can go - we believe you" !
