Yesterday, 5/22 went out on the Wreck Valley W/ Dan Berg to the Oregon. Although it was quite foggy and took forever to make it out to open water, the seas were relatively flat. We were met out at the Oregon by John Jack of Staten Island and Loch Ness from Freeport. We tied in in the bow section.
While some divers were concentrating on locating prized artifacts, others were new to the wreck and just wanted to look around. Myself, I am addicted to bug hunting. Visability was in the 40 ft range, but the temperature on the bottom was in the range of 38 deg. On the first dive picked up two bugs that I believed to be legal. Others I picked up but they did not measure up. Unfortunately one of the two on the surface measured just marginally, so I gave it a chance to molt a little more. I limited my dive to about 30 minutes as from past history I believed that was as long as my fingers could handle the cold. I used three finger mitts for the cold water, others using 5 finger gloves found their fingers numbing much sooner than 30 min.
Second dive proved to be similar to the first. Bone chilling temps and great vis. on this dive I bagged another two bugs.
By the time we left the fog had lifted a bit. How clear things were on the trip home are a mystery to me as I hit the lower bunk and was out for most of the trip home.
