A long time ago, I saw some people diving for lobster in Maine, and cooking them on the boat (might have been foodtv or the discovery channel).

Catching it, cooking it and eating it right on the spot sounds really cool, and I'd like to try it.

Has anybody heard anything about this?

Thanks!

Terry

Best not have been in Maine, "you cant dive for bugs in Maaine". Its not legal you know and aint been for 40yrs I know bout.

Used to do it in Jersey as a matter of fact on my boat we would do a bunch on sat and eat some and then on sunday we would have'm cold with some amber fluids and swap some back at the dock for clams to go with it.

Diving for lobster in Maine? Great way to get shot! Lobster diving in Maine is a major no-no. Also illegal in New Hampshire.

Dumb question, why is it illegal? My wife loves (worships) really fresh seafood. If I can combine her desire with my hobby, it would make purchasing dive gear (and trips to the coast) a whole lot easier.

Its to do with the attitude of commercial fisherman and their all lobsters are ours, and if you take one its food out of their kids mouth. Sorry Ive heard that for so long it automatic; and I fished commercially and don't understand it but.........
Your best bet is Ma, Conn, or RI and guys will chime in from there soon Im sure.

It's total BS IMO. Here in MA, where it's legal to dive for lobster, we (divers) take less than 1% of the total yearly catch.

OK. I'll try again!

Is there anyplace in MA where I can dive, catch lobster(s) and cook and eat them either on the boat or very shortly after?

Thanks!

Terry

a MA lobster license, a boat and a good lobster spot. I don't wish to start another meandering thread about lobster populations but I personally am not counting on a "good" lobster year. The numbers have been way down the the last couple of years. I am going tomorrow to Scallop/ Bug hunt (if I see any) so if my perception changes, I'll let you know :)
