Anyone,
I live in New York State.

What are the requirements for when a diver needs to tow a flag/float while diving?

Is it when he does a shore dive and does not have a boat with the flag flying?

???

ask a question about diving in New York and everyone disappeared! I am sure they will be back shortly to address your question Scuba446.

Last time I checked. you need to have a Flag/Float on all beach dives. You can run one from your boat and that gives you 100m radius of "saftey" from other boaters.

Hi Scuba446,
I haven't checked, so I've been watching this thread
I haven't dived much in NY Yet!!

The last 2 shore dives were in a heavily fished area, Boats trolling with outriggers and downriggers!! We used a float. Law or not, We wanted them to know we were there!!!

2 other dives we did were at a small inland lake. nobody there but us, no need for flag/float.
