so today I was at Venice Beach and saw 2 divers entering the water just south of VB beyond the swim buoys. A jet skier was waiting for the couple, and when the divers entered the water, the man got on the back of the jet ski with his dive flag and left his woman dive buddy behind in the water. The jet ski took the diver out about 20 ft and dropped the male diver off. The lifeguard had paddled out to the woman to let her know that she needed a dive flag and the jet skier had come back around to pick the woman up to take her out to where the male diver was. Later I heard from the lifeguard that one of the men, either the diver or jet ski operator, was a Sherriff's Deputy, who should have known better.

Moral of the story: carry a dive flag with you at all times unless you are in the "swim zone" swimming or snorkeling. Rent a charter if you are too lazy to swim to look for shark's teeth.

Florida has the best dive flag laws in the nation. Carry the flag if you value your life. That's a shallow area and boats need to be warned of your presence.

Yep, should have known better!
