Hey, we missed you at the Grotto get-together. What happened?

I ended up going down to Sanibel Island to look for shells. I don't have my own scuba stuff yet so I would like to save my money for gulf dives because I'm very anxious to see sting rays! I am looking forward to meeting everyone and next time you all are going to the gulf let me know.

I would like to see big sting rays as well but never have. Been diving for 5 years now and saw only smaller ray never manarays :-(

Tarpon reef is loaded with them. The last three dives there I saw numerous Large Ray's.

How far out is Tarpon reef? I might want to run my little boat out there and check that out if it's not too far.

Feel for you WyDive. I just did the same with the wife and daughter. I never realistically figured in the maintenance costs (and to think I _used_ to have a hard time saving up for things!) Not to mention the 'Daddy will haul all the gear' mentality - need to fix that one! Cheers to you (I have a son who will be old enough for cert in two years).

Welcome Reneety! Just to add my $.02, this is a great group. I have only been on the board a year, but those I've met (camped, dived, and eaten with) are Good People in general. You will be welcome at the events, just show up (and don't be shy). Watch out for Jenny with the rum tote though, and various forms of marshmallow weaponry.

I saw a very large carribean ray at Tabletop off Bradenton. Probably 5' wingspan.
