Hi

I´d like to learn to scuba dive in Honduras in late july. I´m currently in Guatemala. I also have allergy induced asthma (mostly cat dander).

I read the thorntree post discussing the pros and cons of diving w_asthma.

I'm sure no-one on this board will be so coarse, but PLEASE don´t waste your time stating "it´s safe" or "never dive" - like most things the situation is gray, and unless you´re a qualified dive doctor with access to my lungs, you´re not qualified to judge the risk I´m exposing myself and others to.

What I´d like to know is: are there any (good!) dive doctors in Central America who could test my lung function? Pref Honduras or guatemala........

Thanks

Phil

"Dive Docs", probably scarce. Cardio-Pulmonary specialists? Sure- in the big cities. There might be a long line, but then again, US dollars might bump you up, maybe not.

For most other readers... I'd be checked here (in the US or relative civilization) by what you call a dive doc. You sound like me a bit- when I started skiing 50 years ago I learned to select my Doctors by their similar sport hobbies. I also found an ENT guy that dives. He knows what he's saying and he knows what I am hearing and he mainly knows what i'm going to do either way.

There are surprisingly few cats in the dive zones of Honduras (the bats got 'em), and since most people are actually alergic to the saliva residue of cats versus the dander- you might be in luck.

(can someone move this to the appropriate forum?)
