We went out to Clear Springs today. Vis was quite good! Around 15 ft or better in most places. 50F at the surface, 48 at the bottom of the silo. Here is a video of today's dives.

Twins Lake, Feb 7th: Bad. Visibility 1-3ft. 15' pretty much almost total darkness. Best to solo dive as keeping track of your buddy can be maddening.
PS: Twins Lake seems 30.07 friendly.

Temp was 50 to 51 degrees from the surface down to 40ft. Visibility was 5 to 10 ft from the surface down to about 30ft. Below 30ft the visibility dropped to around 5ft. Today was sunny, winds were calm and air temps were warm so it made for a good time. We met alot of nice folks from the Scubadillos and Diving Rebels dive clubs, it was nice to meet everyone today.
We also started collecting data, for Project Baseline at Lake Murray. Project Baseline is a world wide conservation initiative to help protect our aquatic resources. Check out www.projectbasline.org for more info. Give me a shout at Jason@gue.com if you are interested in participating.

Great dives today at Wheeler Branch Lake today. 30-40ft viz. Seriously. Just make sure to find a place away from the crowds that stir the silt for the best viz. Marine plant growth was dense. Usually there's little or no plants this time of year. Apparently the exceptionally mild winter allowed the plants to grow and prosper during the winter instead of being frozen to death. It would be interesting to see what they look like later in the year since they have such a head start. Lots of animals including numerous large bass, perch, and crawfish were observed. There's also little trails all over the bottom and I finally figured out what causes them. It's some kind of little snail. I spotted one at the end of a trail. Complicated thermoclines were present. It was 60s 13ft or shallower. It got cold below that and REALLY cold around 30ft. And there was 1ft layer of very cold water just above the bottom everywhere. So it's already possible to do a nice long dive as long as it's a shallow one. Wheeler would be a good place to try a night dive. Hordes of crawfish probably come out.
288 Lake - 30 Apr. Temps were about 74 at the surface and 66 at 33 ffw. There were two thermoclines, one about 15 ffw, the other about 28 ffw, with temps dropping approx 4 degrees at each one. Viz was only about a foot or two on the bottom, but above 15 ffw it opened up to 10' or so. We were expecting thunderstorms all day, so were pleasantly surprised by a clear sunny day when we surfaced.

Heavy current, 10 foot vis, freshwater interface to 30 feet. No current, 50+ plus vis, 80 degrees below 30 feet, 70 degrees at 92 feet.

288 Lake - June 18th. Water temp in the low 80's down to about 18 ffw, drops a few degrees below that. Viz was 8-10' in most spots.

Mammoth Lake
I went today, vis is a solid 10-12', with that said, the training platforms are 16' x 16'. From one side to the other you can make out the benches and shapes of divers, but you can't tell anything about them at 16'. At a distance of 10' you can definitely see your buddy and identify individual divers., temp 88 down to 38', 86f past 39', large perch and bass on structure.
