Very new to diving and I am looking to buy my own dive computer. I'm looking for a cheaper one (450$ and below) that has app compatibility to upload dive logs. If anyone has any experience with this your shared knowledge would be greatly appreciated! I am currently looking at the oceanic GEO/VEO 4.0.

Aqualung I330R is a great little computer that is more than enough computer for most divers out there. Colour screen, rechargeable, has a decent little app. Its not suitable for tech but at your price range and as your just getting in to the hobby thats not something you should worry yourself over for now.

While I would highly recommend the Shearwater Peregrine TX, it is a bit out of your price limit. Before I bought mine, I did use Oceanic computers. While not as customizable as the Peregrine TX, the Oceanics do have a dual algorithm, one rather liberal (DSAT) and the other a little more conservative (Z+). If you could spend about $100 more, the Geo Air has air integration. You can buy it without the transmitter to begin with and later buy a used Pelagic MH8A transmitter when you find one at a good price.

ETA: The MH8A is compatible with not only Oceanic computers, but Aqualung, Shearwater, and Sherwood AI computers as well as some other discontinued brands.

This is a excellent option, especially at $500 (half off when added to cart) and for all of the daily wear features. Garmin has a full featured dive log and they continuously improve it.

Before buying new dive computer you may consider how you want to log your dives. If using electronic divelogs, please notice that some brands only support their own proprietary dive logs.
If you have multiple dive computers or previously has used different brand it may not be possible to download new dives from new dive computer into that same log.

Yes, this is a consideration. I have found for the most part, though, that 3rd party dive logs are compatible with most brands, and especially the most popular models. I have been using Subsurface for several years on PC and Android (both free with free cloud storage) for several years and have been able to download dives from Suunto (different models, cable required), Oceanic (again, several models, cable required for the models I've used), and Shearwater (Bluetooth). If not using AI, dives can be entered manually.

I do know there are some computers that only allow download thru their own software, but I can't recall which ones they are at the moment.

I'm looking for a cheaper one
As much as I'd love a Shearwater Peregrine, at this point in my diving I just didn't want to spend $550 on a computer. I found Mares Puck Pro+ on Amazon for $170 (the price is $199 now on the Mares Amazon store). I found the USB cable on eBay for $15 and it downloads into Subsurface.

Is the peregrine worth $380?

Deduct the cost of the other unwanted computer from the price.
