2Tours N Iraq`:
I'm not SCUBA certified yet and when I complete my 2nd tour here in Iraq, I plan on getting certified. After reading this discussion, I am extremely disappointed with this forum as the more experienced divers treat beginners like idiots. If you strive to "take the wind out of someone's sails" then I commend you for your effort, however this proves counter-productive to expanding the sport. Way to go.
Welcome to the board and thanks for your service to your country.

Just remember not to throw the baby out with the bathwater. As you look around ScubaBoard, you'll find a lot of very helpful attitudes as well.

What you may not realize is that you've stumbled across one of those arguments that people have a tendency to be very passionate about. There are a few of those topics that you'll see pop up and a bunch of people (often the same people) seem to get pretty riled up every time they come up. Just do a search on "Backplate and Wing" and you'll find some heated discussions.

That said, you'll probably find that these heated discussions are still the minority of the content here on ScubaBoard.

May you find learning to dive lot's of fun and I hope that you find plenty of info on this board to help you in your endeavor.

Christian

Welcome to the board, and hopefully you will still consider getting OW certified.

Notice this whole thread pops up in 'Basic Scuba Discussions'.

People are certainly opinionated, but luckily you get to dive with people that you like and agree with your train of thought.

Weigh most of these opinions offered with a grain of salt, as they are offered by people who spend more time talking about diving, than ENJOYING diving.

Thanks Kevin, I'm not going to let a couple of close minded individuals deter me from something that I desire to do.

No doubt about it, I'd choose the blue one....I'm sorry, what was the question again?

Hey 2Tours N Iraq', a hearty thank you, to you and the others who fight to preserve the freedom of even having a board where we can argue. Thank you.

Thanks for your service 2Tours. My son-in-law is a Ranger and not at his house right now either.
I haven't read all the entries in this thread as I also tire of the arguements, but to the original question I bought the computer and bought the camera for my wife. That way I get pictures and don't have to deal with the thing. She loves to take pictures and I love to let her.

Cool, hope your son-in-law comes home soon. Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

Will the camera make you a better and safer diver? No.

Will the computer make you a better and safer diver? Maybe.

Just get the damn computer. Lol!
