Hi. My friend and I would like to join a local (San Diego) dive club and would appreciate any suggestions and/or input. We are both novice divers and have our own gear (except tanks).

What we are looking for is an easy going/fun group that offers dives (beach and boat) appropriate for our skill level so we can gain experience in the water and become better divers. We aren't into photography or wrecks, or anything specific (not yet anyway!). We just want to meet other divers and dive more!

Thanks for any info!

Melanie

p.s. This is an obvious newby question  , but it doesn't matter if we were certified by different agencies, does it? (PADI and SSI)

The Diving Locker has a club that has a boat that does dives that are free for members. I would look into them.

i am in the same boat, although not quite a newby, but a newby to the area. any suggestions keep em coming folks.

The Bottom Bunch Dive Club is a nice group of divers. They don't have a boat like The Diving Locket but they do organize trips on the local charters and they have weekly scheduled beach dives. Divers of all levels are always welcome. They have monthly meetings and always have interesting guest speakers, raffles for door prizes and several club events throughout the year. The annual bbq and dive is actually next Friday at La Jolla Shores. You can check out their website at www.bottombunchdiveclub.com. Hope to see you at a meeting.

If you are into UW photography you should try the San Diego Underwater Photographic Society http://home.nethere.com/hgruenha/ My GF was a member for a while and they had cameras (Nikonos) you could borrow.
