Hi there,

We've had good dealings with Scubaculture - based in Hawthorn. Actually one of our instructors almost went to work for them (the only reason they didn't was due to work visa/residency issues, nothing professionally related). She was very impressed by their standards and how thorough they were in their teaching and training methods. they are an SSI dive centre, but obviously should accept divers from all training agencies.

Good luck and happy diving :)

I am a former customer of ScubaCulture and can vouch for them... However while their shop meets your criteria, to go diving with them you would have to go farther afield. They usually (or at least used to) use Dive Victoria's boats, which operate out of Portsea. But you could probably arrange to meet at the shop and get a lift.

Hi,

I was at ScubaCulture and unfortunately it seems a diver needs to be a member to dive with them. As a one off diver they have suggested me to go to Dive Victoria (mentioned by @Tortuga68), where I can also rent the gear. Not sure if I'll be able to go there, but if so I'll keep you posted.

Cheers
Joao

Jpalcg, most of Melbourne's diving is around the Port Phillip Bay Heads and out into Bass Straight.
Portsea is the base of Dive Victoria and is around 1&1/2hrs drive from Melbourne CBD.

It's worth the effort if you can get there.
