i realised most of the sites are marine sanctuaries, thus the fees to pay too...
i just hope dumaguete has not reached the 'over-commercialised' state and the marine life is still as vibrant... :blinking:

Yep, most of the dive sites in Dumaguete are Marine Protected Areas (MPA's) and it really does make a difference. All the MPA's here are managed by the local fishermen's associations, and the fees collected from divers are used for maintaining moorings, marker buoys, and for the wardens' salaries. As for paying the fees, some of the resorts (like the one I work for) incorporate them in the dive rates so paying guests need not worry about them. Dumaguete is far from being "over-commercialized"; there's only a handful of resorts along a very, very long stretch of beach. The local atmosphere is also very laid-back.
