Would love to join you guys but probably can't make it - if I'm lucky I'll be down on Sunday to take my other half on her first coldwater dive - last time we tried it got postponed while we were standing in the Breakwater carpark with a trunk full of dive gear because of some congestion :(

Don't forget about the sealion invasion. Apparently there's a few dead/dying ones about on San Carlos beach, and a bunch of others are looking starved. The boat ramp in the car park is currently closed, but attempts will be made to hose them off.

Predicted conditions, etc, for this weekend courtesy of Michelle at Glenn's Aquarius II diveshop:

Conditions are pretty flat today with breakwater around 5-15 ft viz in spots, and reports from lobos are outside 30 ft. should be decent for the weekend. Winds have been up for the day but nothing horrible. Just for a FYI, boat ramp is closed due to a take-over of sea lions so the boatworks is going to try to set someone up to hose them off for the weekend…we’ll see. If not, you’ll have to launch from fishermans’ wharf. They are a determined group. Also, a few have been washing up on san carlos either hurt or worse, dead. If you have a problem with this this weekend, come by and we’ll call marine mammal center to help these guys out. They have barricades up to the bathrooms and they were in the parking lot but they herded them back and closed them off. Lots of them.

The Marine Mammal Center's hotline number is (415) 289-SEAL, or (415) 289-7325.

I may be going to the breakwater this weekend. If I do, I'll report back on the sealion thing or anything else that seems important

Does anybody want to dive Monterey on Thurs., Fri., Sat. or Sunday? Call in sick and lets go!

Hi All,

I am presently on Vancouver Island.

I will be traveling down through Monterey with my brother sometime later this year, probably Spetember-ish.

I would love to catch up with some local people and get a few dives in.

Out of interest lal7176 what dives are you normally doing when you say you can go diving in Fridays shore dives, boat dives etc?

Cheers,

Andrew

I do mostly shore dives with the ocasional boat dives a few times a year. I dove with ERP the other day and we were talking about trying to get to Pt Lobos on a weekday.

Shore dives, thats good to know.!

I doubt that my budget would stretch to to many boat dives anyway.

I'll be sure to message here before I head down. Are there many shore dives in the Monterey area, I understand that there is a big marine park in that area.

There is plenty of shore diving around monterey and carmel area. There is everything from easy shore dives to extremely deep water advanced shore diving depending on tastes.

There is the Ed Ricketts marine park http://www.rickettsreserve.org/ricketts/index.html

PM me when you get here and maybe we can arrange some dives together . My wife is originally from australia (sydney). Talk to ya later :D

Forgot to add that Point Lobos is another marine reserve with great beach diving. Hopefully ill find out how great some day in the future.

Went to Monestary for two dives on Saturday and went to Macabee beach today for two also.

Nice dives all around.

It was quite calm at Monestary with better than 25 ft vis. I'd actually estimate it at 35 ft. vis at 75 ft., but I may be wrong...

Macabee today was 20ft vis or so at 25ft...

I'm worn out.... :)
