I'd like to do some drift diving for fossils in the Ginnie Springs or other area on July 2,3. I will be traveling alone and am looking for a dive buddy. I'm open to diving any river where fossils can be found. Is anyone interested in meeting up?

Thanks,
Brian

Check out dive ops in Venice. You'd be diving in the ocean, but in the remains of an ancient river bed that contains a lot of fossils. A buddy of mine found a Megladone (sp?) tooth when he made the dives two years ago. I suggest this since you probably can just hook up with a buddy on the boat.... in fact, according to my friend, a lot of divers end up doing a solo dive in really shallow water with a dive flag, digging around in the sand for the fossils and shark teeth. A DM might swimg by once in a while to check on the solo divers but its not a difficult dive (again according to my buddy).

Venice is great for fossil diving. If you haven't done it, I highly recommend it. I dive the Venice area often and will be diving there the weekend before I plan to head north. My avatar was taken off of one of the Venice beaches. I wouldn't recommend solo shore diving if you're unfamiliar with the area/conditions, but there are charters available and it is usually easy to find a buddy for shore diving (check out the Venice forum on Scubaboard). If you're interested in details, feel free to send a message. I'd like to go north to try something different. I did my check out dives at Ginnie Springs about 20 years ago and found great fossils while drifting the Santa Fe river. I'd like to do it again.
