Jim,

Do you already have the 5ft hose? When I was looking to get my regs I was adviced to just go ahead and get a 7ft hose. I just tuck it under my knife or into my belt.

I've used the 5ft. and didn't like it. Tucked under the knife it was too short and pulled when I looked left, and untucked it had a pretty big loop in it. The 7ft tucks nicely with no pulling. YMMV.

I concur. I think the 5 foot hose is useless, except, maybe for real small people. Just go with the 7 footer...

With the 7ft, just tuck as much as you need to into the waist webbing of the harness until it's where you want it. It pulls right out no problem during an air share.

thanks-for the help Scubaroo im not trolling with underscores have a very-expensive mac laptop my girlfriend spilt cofee on the space bar every other key-works so haven't-bothered to fix as can use my other-comp.
Sorry about your loss...but its pretty funny

maccajim:
I haven't bought the hose yet so sounds like i should get the 7ft can i shorten it later?
No..or at least not worth the effort

maccajim:
Im 5ft 9 worried-it-maybe to big
7' shouldn't be too long

maccajim:
Do u guys put anything on the dump string-seems maybe tricky-with gloves on
thanks for all the good info
You could swap the thin line with some thicker line. Thats what I did and know it is easy to use with Dry Gloves. But I can't remember the web site that shows this DIY project :(

I normally recommend the 7ft hose over the 5 foot hose. The 7 foot hose would normally be run between the cannister and the body. Without the cannister a loop of the hose can be stuff under the waist strap at the same location that canister would occupy.

The loop under the waist strap or running under the cannister allows you to adjust the length of hose running accross your chest, behind your neck and to your mouth. If this length is too long the excess hose will form a big loop that sits aboue your neck and head, looks goofy and presents an entanglement issue.

The 5 foot hose does not have sufficient length to run under the cannister or form a loop and stuff under the waist strap. So if the length works for you then its okay but if its a bit too long it will form a loop above your head as well.

A 6 foot hose is even worse on most people, too long but not long enough to stow properly.

The 7 foot hose should work fine for you.

Enjoy

I dive with a 7ft hose and no can light. I just tuck the hose under my knife and it works great (unless you lose your knife :54: ).
As far as the pull dump string, aside from putting in a thicker string is to tie a couple more knots in it on top of the original knot. Makes it easier to grab with thick gloves on. My gloves are 5mm and I dont have a problem now that I did that.
