I am looking to purchase a reg that is din compatable and is DIR acceptable. I am looking for the best performance. I have my own thoughts but need some words of wisdom.

Thanks

You might get a better response if you post your question in the DIR forum. Apeks and ScubaPro seem to be the regs of choice for most DIR divers, but are by no means the only acceptable choice. I use Apeks and Zeagle. The Apeks DS4s are great, not expensive, easy to get serviced, etc. You also didn't say if you were looking for single or double tank.
Also, you want a downstream design (most are), and one with parts that are easily interchangable/able to remove the purge cover without tools.

Where do you dive? Warm water? Cold water?

It would help us out a lot if you filled out your profile, and posting this in the DIR forum would generate many responses that you will find helpful.

I am using the $60 primaries available here in the hot deals section. I got them with the cold water kits installed and they work great. I also have a set of DS4's but have been so pleased with the less expensive regs I haven't tried them out yet (still in the box).

I am a Scubapro MK17/G250HP or MK17/S600 fan. No swivel, good routing, high performance regulators; complies with DIR. It is fully sealed and, with good technique, will never freeze up. The G250V is also scheduled to come out soon. This is essentially the older G250, with a different cover.

no specific DIR regs....Balance is one thing, ease of breathing, DIN, Apex is widley used. So is Mares Abyss, Scubapro. Baiscally a Quality reg.

From GUE-DIR
Scuba diving can be taken up in a variety of environments and conditions. Though this is one of diving's most fascinating features, it is also what places great demands on equipment. This means that divers should consider how and where a regulator will be used.

Regulators may be divided by use as follows:

Primary regulator: worn on the diver's back and breathed during normal diving
Back up regulator: worn on a diver's back but not breathed (backup)
Decompression regulator: used on a decompression bottle
Stage regulator: used on stages typically at depth and to extend bottom time
Argon regulator: used for suit inflation

Many divers prefer a high-performance, balanced, second stage as their primary regulator, and a slightly lower performance, unbalanced, second stage as their backup.6 This proven configuration gives a diver the best of both worlds. Stage bottle regulators are used to extend bottom time; so many divers prefer to use a similar regulator to that used as a primary. However, stage and deco first stages are more likely to be flooded with water, making piston-style regulators a common favorite.7 Argon bottle regulators should be robust in design and function well at a low intermediate pressure

I've seen that deal. What will you do for service though? Any thoughts about walking into your LDS with that 1st stage, even if you supply the parts? Also, did you buy a couple years worth of rings for the future?

Have you used that reg in cold water? I'm thinking about using it for my deco reg and in ice diving.

Thanks.

Hello, From learning from couple people on this board I will tell you what I think Most people dive in the Tech/Dir/Solo/ What ever eles there is for technical diving.
Apeks,Scuba Pro,Atomic,Zeagle,Salvo,Oxyheq, I seen some sherwood, I have seen pretty much every reg brand used for this type of diving on this forum. I really depends on what you like, I dive the apeks xtx200 and I love them. Some people dont like them for the mouth peice, Some people swear by it that t hey are the best you can buy. Really I have dove a Salvo/Oxy just the other day and I would sell my xtx200 for two of them. Plus oxy and salvo sells for 275 for the 1st stage and 2nd stage and any length of hose you want where my xtx200 cost me 665 on sale and it came with a standard hose, that being said now looking back I should of got two salvos and used them. Plus you can buy repair kits and salvo is starting to grow, which is nice. They are the same reg as the dive rite pretty much just under branded smaller company.

I haved used them in 40-50 degree water, no problems. I bought one rebuild kit with each of them.

If your LDS cant service them with supplied kits then your LDS is not worth visiting or etter still self service. And anyway at $60 they are disposable.
