Is it just me or do the DIR techniques seem constrictive, overall, and in terms of gear and where you should store things?and a bit over the top?

Got your flame suit on

Well you just asked THE most controversial question on :sblogo:
So you better dig in deep and.....

Wait a minute this is the basicscuba forum so you're safe here.:D
I do agree with you but they do have some very good points.
I always like to take the good and leave the rest.

So we've reached consensus that split fins are superior in every respect, and having a mask on your forehead will result in irreversible brain damage? Man, the nights are going to be far quieter here. :D

Basic Scuba Forum "TOS";3779287:
Remember that the inquirer is looking for answers that they can understand. This is a learning zone and consequently, any off-topic or overly harsh responses will be removed.

Hmmm...how to answer your question without violating the TOS for this forum...

I'll need to get back to you on that.

I'm gonna start my own agency, and to get certified you have to backwards kick the entire dive, and be able to giant stride back into the boat.

Sure:

The DIR answer to the OP's question is "No, it's not just you."

But you didn't need a DIR diver to answer that question.
