I used the fisherman's knot with one modification. I put a simple overhand knot in each loose end and pulled them very tight. That way I could leave the fisherman's knot al little loose but didn't have to worry about it coming untied.

I decided on that rig rather than the one aquamaniac used in case a paniced diver decides he wants my bungeed rig rather than my pony. With a reasonably serious tug, the reg will pull loose from the bungee.

Probably not an important consideration if you dive with highly trained buddies. But this run-of-the-mill recreational diver isn't usually in that kind of company.

I would like to thank you for your very clear and concise answer to my question. I will have to look into it further and probably will modify my gear set-up a bit. I will definitly make sure that my buddy knows what is going on with the change in set-up.

One last question, if I may. About what length hose is used for the primary reg when using a bungeed back-up?

Thank you.

Dive safe.

If there is an OOA situation, why would someone give up their primary reg and use their octo instead of being ready with the octo to give to the OOA diver and continue using their own primary? It would seem to me, having the octo in my hand ready to hand off and keeping the primary myself would be a faster way of getting air to the OOA diver then handing off the primary and then finding and using the octo.
Geoduck,

Your questions are addressed completely in:

Take some time to read the thread, it caused some good debate.

Thanks all :) I think too the one thing that UP mentioned that made sense to me on donateing your primary was that an OOA diver was gonna be looking for the bubbles and his sense of panic is going to be reduced significantly when you hand him your primary. You both know its going to work. If your backup octo dosen't for what ever reason you have solved his problem and worse case senario are buddy breathing with the panic level notched way down. for me it seems to make alot of sense and feels comfortable. I guess next step is 6-7 ft primary hose. damn at this rate I'll be ready for a canister light in oh 5-6 years and stroke free in oh 10 :)

Not that long, The infestation will accelerate soon. Before too long you wont be able to stop it.
Once the symptoms cease you can join us at D.I.R.A.

Well, at the risk of inflaming some, the cord your using lools like it could cut latex, ( possibly ) as opposed to surgical tubing. I have to say the knot looks appropriate though. Here's the sore spot, I dive Poseidons, ( take cover )and find the ring around the mouth piece very uncomfortable. I know it's not approved, but I prefer the string/tubing what ever, around the body of my second, not the mouth piece. Who am I to critique you, nobody really, when I violate protocall as I have described. If it works for you, great! I merely gave a FRIENDLY opinion. Enjoy your diving and be careful.......Happy holidays......

This is only my opinion OK. My second for my primary and my octo are the same quality for just the reasons you gave. Your going to hand someone your primary and know that the regulator your going for will work. Saving money in this area is not an option in this matter, in my opinion.
Happy Hollidays
