I am wondering why DIR requires the use of a continuous peice of webbing for harnesses? I understand not wanting quick releases, but what is wrong with the "deluxe" harnesses without them? I don't see the rings failing and stitched webbing isn't prone to failing either. The harness I used at AIRBORNE to jump out of planes used stitched webbing and that sees more stress than a scuba harness would. So why the ban? Just trying to understand the logic.

There's nothing appreciably gained (as far as DIR is concerned) from a "Deluxe" harness, but the stitching and such will fail before the webbing would, so there is something lost.

ALL THE WAY !!! Sorry...not DIR...but sndt understands...

dont take what you dont need.
Plus it costs a few dollers to replace a stright piece of webbing or put togther your first back plate with out the fancy stuff of the delux modle.
