I would like to take fundies. I am a US expat living in Australia for another year. The local price for the class is about $750 US which I think is outrageous.

I may just wait until I get home where there is more competition and more options. Can anyone share average prices for fundies in the US?

I've been told 400 to 500. 450 being the happy median.

Of course, I'm not to sure, that's just the price I was told a class I am going to try to take in June.

It shoudl be cheaper here in the US... Best bets would be LA, Monterey or Seattle (on the west coast) ... Somewhere with a resident GUE instructor. The reason for the high price in Australia is you (the students) pick up the instructors airfare and expenses.

Zero Gravity in Mexico charges $550US. Northern Techdiver in Ontario charges $400US plus books. $750 seems high unless, as mentioned, you have to fly in an instructor and are paying for his expenses.

There is actually a local instructor. He is the only instructor in the country of Australia.

Another consideration is the instructors access for re evals... In my local area you have a chance to get re evaluated almost every month

Your local area is my past and future local area. I did not get certified until I moved to Oz but I certainly plan to keep diving when I move back to Northern California.

The opportunity for monthly reevaluations of skills is a big selling point for me.

When you get hre look us up... We have a healthy DIR community here that can help you get started.... Feel free to pm me if youneed some mroe info on Nor Cal diving

im with you fishdiver... i just found it its $995AUD!!!

Yikes.... the instructors down here are nice guys but it puts a whole different thought into dipping your toe into dir

It all depends on the instructor. I have had quotes from $450 to over$600. The length of the class varies also. Our group has settled on $450 and a 4 day class.
