Patton said that? ... that's in poor taste.

Most of what Patton (or at least George C Scott) said was in poor taste.

Most experienced divers will run up against NDL before air considerations. Most exeperienced divers know their SAC and have done the same kinds of dives so many times that they know where they are in terms of gas and NDL at just about any time in the dive. I've never dived with anyone who rushed to the ascent line hoping they are not going to run out of air.

Its still a plan. Might not be the best one, but its not the worst either. It at least implies some level of awareness of what is going on.

True, and to be fair, I lived through many such dives with nary an ill-effect.

okay, so back to the question. Doing the dives I described, and not being capable of doing all this multilevel plan changing calculating in my head, while trying to learn exposures, is it realistic to dive this style...just asking. I don't think so. I asked the question once before and assurances by DIR point and shoots. But I just don't think I have the hard drive capacity for all this.

The question becomes, Is DIR really a system compatible with all (most?) diving objectives?....from DIR perspective of course? they insist yes, right?

RH, yes, I know where my gas is very second nature but I do pop into deco occasionally often and not have a clue how it happened. It usually involves a bounce but I just do the deco. I admit there is no way I could pull this off in my head. I think sometimes freediving for the bouy with my Sunnto messes me up.

Hey Ed ... nice to see you in here. When and where did you do Fundies ?? ...

I started the class with Bob Sherwood and Ed Hayes last October in PA and finished it off on Grand Cayman at the end of February. Great class I really enjoyed it. I've actually followed these forums for quite awhile but with my inexperience and the abundance of quick fingered helpful regulars I don't post too often :05:

Hey thanks for the praise but truth to tell at this point it's really helpful for me to have a rock solid buddy. I spent that entire week in Bonaire doing my monkey see monkey do routine to you and some of the other experienced divers. The AOW materials you gave me were great and actually helped me prepare a lot for the fundies academics. So when are we going diving again

Careful with that gun, Elmer...
And for you wascawwy wabbits you just watch yourselves. I'll get you yet! (Nope I don't feel picked on. I've got a thick skin anyway so in the future feel free to call me a fool if I deserve it.)

I think so too, from what I know about DIR they seem to evaluate the information they have about a site and go from there. I don't think they are are inflexible as some make them out to be.
