Okay, I am about to switch to doubles and take all the courses. Question is I have an Apexs 1st stage that has a yolk valve. It's fitting is for regular (single tank) dives, usually. But when using doubles with a manifold you usually use Din fittings. (Please correct me if I am wrong). Am I screwed and unable to use this 1st stage. (I know I will need two of each - 1st & 2nd stages) I just would like to already have one 1st & 2nd set ready.

You have several choices. One, you can convert your present regulator to DIN. Two, you can get a "200 bar" manifold (which I personally prefer over a "300 bar" manifold) and use the screw in adaptors to use yoke regulators.

You will have to convert your yolk valve to an albumen valve.:eyebrow:

I think it's called yoke because the shape of the fitting resembles the yoke you use to harness oxen.

You can get adapters to go both ways, but the adapters make the regulator bigger; sometimes big enough to get in the way, but not always.

Go to your LDS and they can order a conversion kit. I am currently in SSI XTR classes and am also transitioning to doubles. I bought XTX200's to use with my doubles and converted my Legend LX from yoke to din. To me, it's just simpler now to have everything din. I also have a yoke adapter I can screw into the din connector on the first stage in case I need to rent a tank somewhere.

Thanks for that, Sambolino44. ;) Nice way to deal with "yolk" misused for "yoke".

Yes, there are adapters, and there is also the following possibility. My local dive shop took my Sherwood yoke valve, unscrewed the yoke part from the regulator, then screwed in a 300 bar DIN screw. I was not charged for this service and part, and now had an extra DIN 1st stage for my slung Alu 40 tank. Thanks LDS. Don't know if you can do that with an Apeks reg though.

You can do it with an Apeks. I did it to my black pearl regs. just check in the apeks website to see if you have an authorized distributor in your area, and they should be able to do the conversion for you.

Great! I didn't know if the yolk can be taken out and a DIN to be put in.
Thanks everyone.

And to Carrielsal, that is the course I am planning on taking. How do you like it?
