Not sure this is the right place for the question, will see what sort of response it gets then maybe move to the diving medicine section!

I have an old dive cylinder that I have used as an oxygen deco tank for a number of years - it's now surplus to (diving) requirements and I can't seem to find a buyer for it.

Rather than sell it at a stupidly cheap price, I'm thinking of keeping it as an emergency supply of medical oxygen.

The tank has a standard 200 bar DIN valve. So some related questions:

1. Is there an oxygen kit on the market that provides constant flow valve and mask (and preferably a demand valve second stage) that screws in to the DIN valve on the tank?

2. Are there medical "two pin yoke" valves that have an M25 thread so I can replace the valve on the tank and use a "standard" oxygen kit?

3. Is there any way of using a scuba regulator to "bodge" something that works effectively as an emergency oxygen kit.

Any recommendations for suppliers welcomed.

You'll need something like this, and something like this.

The DIN fitting in the first link has 1/4" NPT output.

The Victor medical regulators sometimes come with dial style flowmeters (actually just a pressure gauge), but with a 1/4" NPT fitting to the CGA-540 oxygen cylinder. Make sure you check that the CGA-870 or 540 fitting comes off of the medical regulator, then you can screw the DIN fitting right in. If you're looking at medical oxygen regulators, you'll want one with at least 15lpm flow. There are usually a few available on ebay.

You can purchase non-rebreather masks from medical supply houses. Sometimes hospitals or nurses will give them away for free as they're used once and disposed. Also paramedics may give you a couple for little or no money.

If you step up to a demand valve regulator you'll be looking at converting everything to CGA-870 as I don't know of any medical regulators equipped with fittings for the demand valve hose that have 1/4" NPT fittings. They could be out there, but I haven't seen one. They're normally part of the regulator body and not removable.

Thanks for that - certainly not as expensive as I was expecting, which is nice! We can probably live without a demand valve for now.

for a conscious, breathing diver, wouldn't your deco reg suffice as a demand valve???

Yes and no. Depends on the condition of the diver. Last year we pulled a diver out that was in trouble. Just holding a reg in his mouth was hard for him at the time. We put him on O2 constant flow mask 15 lpm. Having a demand mask is would have been nice. It will make your O2 last much longer.

My choice would be a first stage O2 reg with lp port and constant flow with a demand mask and standard mask. Although cost is much higher for the demand first stage and mask. Currently I have a med. bottle with constant flow only.

Interested to hear what other have and setups.

DAN O2 Rescue Pak Extended Care that I picked up on Craigslist. (Full kit with demand valve regulator and Tru-Fit mask ).

DAN O2 trained, too. Not that it makes much difference if you're advanced nitrox and deco, but at least it looks good.
