If I was looking for the most efficient frog kick to lower my air consumption, does it make a difference which knee position you use ?

The first one is the full breaststroke kick. It will get you the most power, it may raise silt, and it will not lower you air consumption. The second one is the scuba frog kick: no silt, not much calories (and air) needed, not much power either.

If you really need the power, start with the breaststroke kick for initial push and follow through with dolphin kick:

Yes, the first video is a horrible frog kick.....second video is proper. Why? When dropping the knees it pushes water forward reducing efficiency and increasing drag. There really are only 2 frog kicks.....the frog kick and modified frog.

Despite the GUE orthodoxy there IS more than one way to do the frog kick as well as the flutter kick.

The person that gave very sound advice above as to why the second video shows a more effective frog kick is in fact an instructor for an agency that is not GUE. I guess GUE is not the only agency that teaches an effective frog kick.
 
Hey sorry I didn’t mean to sound like I was knocking GUE or the cave frog kick. I agree that it is an effective frog kick, if you are trying to stay off a close bottom to avoid stirring up silt or to avoid the reef when down low close to it, and if you don’t mind moving kind of slow. It’s a great kick for those reasons.
But if you are higher in the water column, maybe doing a long swim out, I just don’t think it’s as streamlined or efficient as a flattened out body position, not dropping the knees but kicking out from the hips and clapping the fins together in the slipstream from your body. To me that feels faster, easier, more natural, and more efficient. I think there can be more than one good kick.

Ok here is a human doing it... the knees do drop a little because we are not built exactly like a frog. Still it is very efficient. How many breaths did he take?
