Despite the GUE orthodoxy there IS more than one way to do the frog kick as well as the flutter kick. The first time I saw someone cave kicking I thought they did not look streamlined at all with their feet up like that. I can do it either way, but in open water when not close to the bottom or silt, for me it feels better to flatten out and kick from the hip. Then again, I was influenced by guys like this, and what does he know?

He does get way too touchy-feely with the reef, which we definitely frown on nowadays! However as far as the form of locomotion goes it has its own grace.

Hi Bluetrin. Very difficult to give objective feedback from a written description so if you can get someone to video you that would be great. Maybe also show us your 'natural' finning technique, i.e what happens when you're not consciously thinking about it.

Sometimes I think people are too concerned about doing what they perceive as the done thing rather than tuning their existing method.

I for one know my frog kick is shite. I can do it, but it just feels awkward after a while. My natural fin is half frog kick and half corkscrew. However it gives me plenty of power, doesn't wear me out, and doesn't disturb the silt.

Anyway, enough about me. Good luck and looking forward to the vid.

In regards to the videos, i would discount the first one, for a few reasons. Second video is spot on.

To work on technique, a shared video of yourself will get the folks on here with much more experience a chance to give you the detailed information you are looking for in reference to your personal kick.

Thanks I need to get a cam and some time in the pool/open water it’s likely to be in about 3 weeks now. But I’ll come back and post a vid.

Or this one :)

Yes that's it, but without the sculling! Shame I can't use the same method to improve my finning as I do to improve my dancing, i.e liberal helpings of alcohol.

Thanks for the earworm BTW! That's now stuck for the day.

First kick video is like a morphed breaststroke + frog ... With more open hips than breaststroke Lots of quad power being used, so big glides ... need rigid fins.
