I was told somewhere that:
http://www.aulinc.com

are selling the FredT bp, but they are not listed like that and I make no claims. I looked at these but the price difference was not much less than the official Halcyon setup, fully rigged. The little bit of extra money was worth it to me to have the Halcyon name back up the gear. I bought if from Extreme Exposure, which is in some way connected to Halcyon and Gue. Anyway, they were very helpful and combine the best of both worlds in terms of internet buying and lds sales staff. They will even take it back used within 30days no questions asked. All the gear they sell is closely monitored by the staff which are all cave/deep tech divers.

I warn you though, once you tried on that bp/wings, you may never go back! I think you dive a Ranger, Herman? That is what I had until trying the bp/wings. I think we both live in NC/RTP area if you ever want to check mine out, also Down Under is an official Halcyon dealer, but they do not have any in stock and do not really push it.

Hey, Fred's Al backplate w/sta & an 18 lb set of travel wings would be just your ticket.
It doesn't even look like you've got a BC on at all unless you see it from the back.
Heck, I'd even consider wearing one of those things, and I never use a BC.

Not sure if Fred's using that e-mail addy, here's one that I know is working as of a couple of days ago: Fred_Tagge@i-o.com

Thanks guys,

Yea, I do have a Ranger and like it. The only real reason I want to look at the bp/wings is strickly a weight/size issue for air travel, otherwise I am quite happy with the Ranger. Tommy, I know Down Under very well, on a first name basis with the entire staff, maybe I can pester Aaron into getting some stuff on display. Now to show my total ignorance on the subject, can you use a regular type tank strap on a bp or do you have to use a metal band? As this is for travel, I want to avoid having to have tools to remove a tank.

Herman, yes, regular tank/cam bands work fine. With the Halcyon setup you don't need the single tank adapter, which lowers the cost and gets the tank verrry close. As the poster right before me said, in a picture, you cannot see the bp/wings from the front at all. Just a few inches of webbing around the shoulders and a foot or so on the waist.

On Down Under, EE actually reminded me of DU in terms of customer service, very likeable and knowledgeable people. They have more than a few dollars from me also. Aaron might have Halcyon rig, he told me he had a rec rig and tech rig once.

For travel it is great also for the reason you mention as it goes flat as a pancake, but then of course if you want to load dual steel 120s, a half dozen or so deco bottles, HID light, 3 scooters, and maybe a rebreather just to get you through the tight spots, it would be alright also. :)

Herman,

I have a 18 lb Halcyon, and I would be willing to trade it for a 27 or the next one up(it may cost more though). I had never thought of trying to see the possibility to swap with someone here until know. Mine is the old style, I have to have the STA. Just couriuos about the chance to swap.

Hi Paul,

I don't have any bp equipment yet. I am in the study phase (which can last a long time for me) so I don't have anything to trade. I have an almost new Ranger and a retired bc so I am not hurting for a BC, just got to thinking as I packed my Ranger for the last trip that it was a little overboard for the diving I was about to do. I may be interested in buying it off of you if the price is right and I can make it work. STA ? I assume it is an adapter of some sort that connects the bp to the wing and supports the tank. I am not adverse to an older style if it does not impact (much) my goal of small/light and it is in serviceable condition, cosmetic enhancements are fine. If you are interested in saleing it to me, email me via the board and we can discuss it off board.

Bob3,

I actually have one of the Nimrod plastic backpacks. I had no idea who made it or when and had been wondering about it. A friend was cleaning out a shed, found it and gave it to me, including a steel 72(?) with a neat J valve. The tank is not serviceable but the BP is in good shape.
