hi i was looking to upgrade to a apek and i was looking at the atx 200 or the xtx 200

and i was wondering what was the diff between the 2 and you input on them please??

Both excellent regs – I own three ATX200s and have tested the XTX200.

Performance-wise, no real difference.

The ATX200 second stages can only be used standard (i.e. coming over your right shoulder), whereas the second stages on the XTX200 can be swapped by an Apeks tech so they come over your left shoulder (some techies prefer this set-up on a twinset).

Also, the ATX200 second stages have small exhaust Ts, whereas on the XTX200 second stages, you can swap between the small exhaust and a larger one (much like those on the old TX series).

Also, on the XTX200 first stage, Apeks have ditched the larger-sized primary port from the ATX200 first stage and made them all standard-size. Handy if you are anywhere remote and your hose goes on the frizz, as trying to find one of those Apeks hoses is a bloody nightmare (ask me, I know...).

All covered I guess.

The only thing to add, is that the ATX is discontinued at least here in the US. So you should ask for a discount. :)

Mark UK hit the nail on the head. But I think the data re. the ATX not being left / right compatible is incorrect.

thx a lot please continue if you have more input

and for the price what is the best deal you guys saw?????

Nope - the ATX range is definitely not left/right compatible, the second stage is not designed in such a way that the mechanisms can be changed around.

This feature – and the user-changeable exhaust Ts – were the two main things Apeks pushed when they launched the XTX range.

And yes, the ATX range has been discontinued. Supplies in the US will probably run out sooner rather than later, as the US distributors haven't taken any stock of ATXs from the UK for a couple of months, but there are still plenty in stock over here, even if the factory aren't actually producing them anymore.

They are also stopping the original TX range, and will just be concentrating on the XTX and the XTX Status series of regs. They also have a tungsten version of the XTX coming out soon, too.

The 'tungsten' finish first appeared on the limited-edition ATX200 Black Pearl, which Apeks produced to celebrate their anniversary. They only made 4,000 for worldwide distribution, and the special finish gave it a toughened, attractive gunmetal-style effect.

They proved so popular that Apeks released the ATX200 Tungsten, which had a very similar finish but wasn't limited edition.

I presume they will be applying the same tungsten finish to the XTX200. It is supposed to be more hard-wearing than the normal shiny chromed finish.

I have a standard ATX200, a Tungsten ATX200 and a Black Pearl, and I have to say that the Black Pearl and Tungsten still look virtually new after several hundred dives, whereas the standard reg (mine's black finish, can be brushed silver finish) is looking a bit tired, with scratches, etc.

It will probably retail for £50 more than the standard reg when it comes out, but performance is not changed.

I have just bot the Tungsten XTX. Personally, if I were to compare it to the Black Pearl - the Black Pearl has a much better finishing. Despite diving with the Black Pearl, it NEVER loses its shine - still looks absolutely new. The finishing on the Tungsten XTX leans towards matt rather than shiny like the Pearl. Both Black Pearl and Tungsten XTX are PVD finishing but if you ask me, the Black Pearl definitely has higher production QC on it - I suppose if Apeks are just producing 4K worldwide, they have to do better QC on it. Just my observations...
