I can't do the fully-overloaded sugar rush (sans the slightest bit of nutrition) regular soda. I do drink Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke from time to time, however rarely. However, yeah, there could be concerns - equally medically significant - about Nutrasweet, Splenda, or whatever else is getting used to sweeten these drinks nowadays and all the phosphoric acid and other acids they put in diet sodas. That said, it is also true that our amazing biological machines can also easily accommodate moderate (read that again! Moderate.) quantities of all that stuff they put in diet sodas.

But heck, why not try something else that can taste almost as good, have none of that crud in it, be virtually calorie-free, and cheap as heck, and that'll hydrate you so much more effectively (read: during your SI)?!?

Me, I buy good ol' regular seltzer water (it's just carbonated water, not "club soda," which has sodium citrate added) in 2 liter bottles and add to a huge glass of that a good size dash of lemon juice. On rare occasions I'll add a pinch (that'd be maybe a half teaspoon, not the 12 teaspoons you find in regular soda) of sugar. Usually not. Tastes better than you think, I guarantee it (unless, of course, you're used to syrupy colas).

I drink a ton of that stuff. It's got its fizz, lemon, tastes really good too, almost like a not-so-sweetened Sprite or 7-Up. Healthy as heck and, like I said, cheap too. Heck, if it's the fizz that we crave most of the time, all you have to do beyond the seltzer water is decide how you want to flavor it. There are so many syrups out there that you can buy and add to a glass of seltzer water without making it a mega-calorie drink, options are nearly limitless!

Try that out some time.

Thank you! I didn't know that. I use club soda and seltzer water interchangeably, because they taste the same to me (and I, too, drink a ton of the stuff. I can go through a 2-liter bottle in a day, easy) and I've always wondered what the difference was. Now I know. Thanks!!!
