Yesterday I went to Portage with my boyfriend and our two friends who took the OW class with us. These were our first two post-certification dives and we had a great time. (Well, I had a lot of problems with my ear and my mask so I had to bail early on the first dive, but anyway...) What particularly made it great was that a couple of the wonderful folks from Sea the World in Farmington, Charlie and Mike, were there waiting for us. They'd had some students out there earlier in the morning and they hung around because they'd heard we were coming. (Thanks Janet!!)
Charlie and Mike were absolutely fantastic. They took us on a guided tour and helped us with lots of tips and suggestions. I'm just flabbergasted that these guys would be so friendly and helpful to total strangers who never even took a class or made a purchase at Sea the World. We just went in there looking around on Friday evening and had a nice conversation with Janet and Craig and mentioned our Portage plans.
Sorry, I'm gushing, but so far I'm really impressed with the wonderful community of divers that exists in Michigan.
