DGX vs Dive Rite backplate

I'm looking to get a bp/w setup. I noticed that the stainless steel backplate from Dive Rite is 189 dollars while the SS backplate from DGX is 100 dollars. Same goes with the tank adaptors where the adaptor from DGX is 30 dollars while the one from Dive Rite is like 60 dollars. Is there any difference in between the gears from DGX and Dive Rite?

I can’t speak to the Dive Rive plate, but I’ve had the DGX plate for about 3 years and love it. IIRC a couple of people mentioned burring on the edges of the DGX plate, but mine was nice and smooth. And, for $89 less, if that’s the only real difference, I’ll pull out a file and round it out myself. As for STAs, can’t speak to that at all as I’ve never felt the need for one with the DGX plate. It always feels very stable as is.

DGX sells good equipment at a good price. Customer service is good.

$ is the only applicable difference, dive rite makes excellent stuff but those to items are as simple as it gets.

Subgravity’s $100 stainless plate has all beveled and polished edges. The slots and holes are a lot like a Halcyon plate, where there’s only one attachment position for each piece. So, it’s mainly set up to work with their wings and likely wouldn’t fit some other brands

And you could spend another $150 for that Halcyon plate with the bottom corners bent so they don’t poke you in the butt

As others have mentioned, the primary difference between the DGX and Dive Rite plates are the price. That being reiiterated, I will add that Dive Rite is viewed by some as an innovator in the diving industry and invest money in the research, development, and production of their products. That is not to imply anything negative about DGX whatsover, but R&D along with in-house production facilities has inherint overhead that perhaps DGX is not as much burdened with.

If the innovation that Dive Rite brings to the diving market is something you value, then you should consider purchasing their brand of equipment as a means of sustaining that which you value.

If your primary concern is with the affect the purchase will have on your wallet, then go with the less expensive product.

Bottom line is that the backplates from both brands are excellent products and will probably outlast your interest in and ability to dive.

I have a DR and a DGX. They are indistinguishable from eachother, except for price. From a practical standpoint you will be fine either way. From a price perspective the choice is obvious. DGX and DR both have great customer service btw.

You either need a much shorter plate, or a much better understanding
just chop some of your plate off then bend the corners with a hammer

That was kind of a joke about those super expensive halcyon plates whose only difference is unexplainable tiny corner bends. The main reason I dive a Subgravity rig is to use their 10lb 6mm plate. Like everyone who hauls around a 2x plate, I wouldn’t feel almost anything pressing on me through my exposure gear . And I’d definitely want something more than hand tools if I ever had to cut and bend that 6mm stainless
