Good afternoon dear Scuba friends,

Thoughts on this light ?

This versus something double the price ( or more ) ?

Really appreciate your input

:)

Can't help but notice all the similarities between the new DGX 4550 canister light and the Orcatorch D630. The internal battery inside looks identical, same with the power switch, and goodman handle. The LEDs are in the same arrangement, and they both have very similar quoted specs and runtime. Visually, the only difference I can tell is a slightly different design of the exterior of the lighthead and top of the canister.

I've been very happy with just about everything I've sourced through DGX. If you're looking for a starter canister light, spending $300-500 instead of $1200-1600 sounds very reasonable. If you decide you want something better, you can always upgrade later, and pass the budget model down to someone else dipping their toes in the water of tech diving.

My only real complaint with the Orcatorch D630 is that the cord is a bit longer than I'd like, and compared to the nice beefy cord on something like a Halcyon Focus, the cord can be a bit putsy to manage, especially when you're looking to stow the light and tuck the cord into your waistband.
