I'm wondering if anyone has experience pinpointing leaks on Ikelite housings. I have a cylinder style video housing and it has developed a small leak (about a tablespoon on most dives regardless of depth) somewhere. The housing itself was not designed specifically for my camera, but it does the job. Why do I mention that? Because there are many unused controls and I was thinking about somehow filling or plugging them to pinpoint the source. Does Ikelite offer a plug of some type to cover the control holes?

I'm also thinking about attaching small pieces of colored paper around each potential point of entry and looking for wet paper and/or colored water in the bottom. Thankfully it a slow leak and the camera is raised off the bottom of the housing.

I'd like to try and fix it myself, so aside from sending it back to Ikelite, any ideas?

That worked, thanks! Not sure why I didn't think of it. It was the main 5 1/2" o-ring.

WB2GLP,

We'd recommend sending your housing to Ikelite between dive trips for a routine overhaul/maintenance. We can plug any unused control locations, check housing integrity, and water pressure test to 200'. Turnaround time is normally 2-3 weeks.

Send to:

Ikelite Underwater Systems
50 W. 33rd St.
Indpls., In 46208
attn. repair dept.

Include a short cover letter detailing work requested.

Regards,

Are the plugs available for purchase? Right now I'm using bolts with o-rings.

You can call Ikelite customer service direct at 317-923-4523 with a Visa/MC to order #9237 hole plugs for 3/8" diameter holes. Cost is $15 each.

Regards,

Understood. Done so knowing what's inside the housing. Nothing electronic inside except the camera. Should I have taken that out? :D
