equalizing BOTH your ears is a prerequisite skill that needs to be done for every dive. remember the greatest pressure change occurs in the 1st 30 feet. if you rupture the drum again you risk hearing loss. As others have said you have to weigh the risks, descending is not the only problem ascending is also a problem (reverse block) and can be just as painful.

You would be best advised to also consult with DAN.
