Ok,

I apologize in advance for what is probably a silly question, but I haven't done a dive with a computer for a VERY long time.

I am curious if modern computers indicate descent rates. I know they do for ascents. My DDR shows both ascent and descent rates on it's graphing, so I know it's being tracked. Just wonder what's displayed...

Thanks,

-P

No, not that I've seen. You'll have to use your timer if you care about the descent rate. I can barely read the ascent rate indicator on my computer and don't use it.

Never seem one that did. If your ears are clearing and your buddy is happy with your decent rate it really does not matter how fast you are decending, unlike accents which are very important.

My Suuntos don't. I really can't imagine why they would . . . nobody cares how fast you go down except your ears.

Didn't some chamber dives show that very fast descents contibuted to increased narcosis on deepish air dives?

Oh and my VR3, my bottom time and my old genesis hockey puck don't care/show anything about descent rates.

I have a Chochran captain and it doesn't show it. My aeris plots it but I'm not sure about display I'll have watch on my next dive.

Your question made me wonder what a/d rates would look like graphed. The data source was a dive from my Vyper processed through Excel.
A/D rate = (current sample-previous sample) /sample time.
