hey, looking for a beach dive to do in between classes...so anywhere from delray beach to highland. Highland especially since it's just a stone's throw away from FAU, anyone know if there's anything off that beach?

In delray there's the wreck: "SS Inchulva." most of the boat is buried and rotted away, so the boiler is supposedly the only thing you can really see, but nontheless the site is supposed to have lots of life including tarpon. Anyone ever give it a try? is it hard to find? Is there a decent reef there?

Well, I'm not surprised that you couldn't find out where it was. I was going to just say look on Google. This site popped up quickly:
http://www.personalscubainstruction.com/DiveSites/PalmBeach/DelrayWreck.html

However most sites said little more than this:
Delray Beach is also home to one of the area's premier diving spots, a state historical site and registered Florida landmark best known as the Delray Wreck. Located a few hundred yards offshore, divers can explore the wreck of the SS Inchulva which sank in a storm off the coast of Delray in 1903.
(and most said consideraly less!)

It took me a while to find this: http://dhr.dos.state.fl.us/bar/scrmast.pdf

Here's an excerpt:

There are many prospects for shipwreck sites which could receive consideration for state historic markers. In 1990, the Historic Palm Beach County Preservation Board placed a bronze and stone state historic marker on the shore near the site of the Inchulva ("Delray Wreck") wrecked in 1903 near Delray Beach, Florida.

I guess everyone assumes you'll just see the marker so they don't bother to mention it.

with a very good description of the site.

We dive it with students on OW1. it's cool, but small. I have seen Tarpon there as well. The rubble reef off of Gulfstream park is more fun to me, and usually has some cool stuff like stingrays, nurse sharks, big schools of Jacks and lots of Burrfish. The reefs here are excellent, but you need a boat to get to them.

I'm still up to doing a wreck/beach dive this week. Couldn't make it to Ginnie this weekend after getting over nasty week long cold. Plus I've been busy with work lately.

Found a couple interesting links related to Inchulva wreck: http://www.americandivecenter.com/local_diving/ld_beach.htm

I have done a couple of beach dives right at the end of Hillsboro Blvd. They were a blast. One was a night dive and if I remember right Walter got his dinner on that dive. No spear gun needed, but several divers had to coral the Flounder.
