I'm creating a custom report from the dive log database off my computer.

One of the things I'm reporting is the # of Sites dove by category of dives. i.e. X Reef Dives Total at n different sites.

What defines a site, for example if you go to Cozumel and make 10 dives on 5 different reefs, would you report 1 site, or 5 sites?

My call is that if you can not reasonably dive both places from the same entry point, they are different sites.

The trip to Cozumel you speak of could be as many as ten sites if the reefs were big enough.

For me, "Location" is where the dive starts (name of quarry, city, inlet, etc.), "Site" is where the bottom time happened (wreck name, reef name, etc.), "Operator" would apply if I had to pay for the dive and that differs from Location (boat name, dive shop, etc.)

When I dive at Gilboa Quarry, that is the Location and I skip Site and Operator as they'd be the same.

i would say they are different sites. Some reefs may be 10 feet deeper than another, some as mentioned will have different entry / exit points. One might have a school trigger fish that are abundant there but nowhere else.

It would depend on each site. I dove in Fort Lauderdale this summer and hit 2 different sites from about 50-100 yards apart. Especially with reefs you may find several sites within 2 locations for entry. Some sites are listed by the formation of the coral while a second site is a shipwreck in the coral. If there is a wreck in the coral I would think that is 2 sites. Usually you would stay to the wreck one dive and tour the reef on a second.
