Does anyone know what the deepest dive has been on compressed air? A book that I have ("the History of Underwater Exploration") says it's 437 ft but the book is a bit old and could be outdated. I'm not sure how you could survive a dive on a compressed air to 437 ft without O2 toxicity, but thats what it says. Has this record been broken or does it still stand?

Also, is there a website that has all the dive records in one place? There seems to be so many..bounce dive, working dive, air, different mixtures, etc.

Hal Watts set it for a long time, still does deep air, it says on one of his pages that a guy reached 519ft in 1999 - i can guess from that he would be narc'd to the equivalent of almost 17 martinis (quite a bit) and have a PPO2 = 3.5, well that is a bit high ;) Not sure if anyone has gone (or even wanted to go) any deeper than that on air.

BTW - dont try this at home kids ;)

We have a guy here locally that has been over 600' on compressed air and standard "Rental" SCUBA gear.

600 ft That would be a "World Record". I would like to know the pond he did that in. And who said Fisherman tell bigger "fish stories" ...........just fishing here!

Pond Oreille Lake (Pond Er Ray). It's 1485' deep and he did it on the northern end. He's trying to set the time down record and the rental bill is sky high.

Yes he is still down there. After three years of being dry he tries to beat his personal deepest dive. His bounce marks on his way over the edge were clearly visible down to a couple of hundere feet. He could even be around 850' depending on which way we went.

Wow that's deep. I didn't realise there were lakes that deep around. What could I look at to tell me the depths of some lakes around here?

Maybe I'm just slow on the uptake here, but I am going to assume that this person is "singing in the chorus eternal", "is an ex-diver", "is pushing up the daisies"?
