I'm leaving Saturday for a 6 day Technical Wreck Penetration Class in upper state NY on the St. Lawrence River. We'll do a couple days of shallow wreck training dives (70'-130'), then move deeper (160'-230'), and finish the last few dives on the Jodrey (with the possibility, depending on how it all goes, of penetrating into the engine room as the final dive).

I'm expecting training on gas management, laying line, OOG drills, mask-less drills, lost line drills, lights out drills, touch communication drills and combinations of all of those.

What else should I expect?

I'm excited and nervous....

Andrew Driver, Mark Luzader...IANTD

Two of the best....they know the Jodrey well....... ;)

Andrew was the first to the engine room. The two of them ran the line...

Yes.....I would love to dive the site at some point....SO till then I am counting on you getting there and a nice report! :D

That area is jam packed with wreck sites.......just watch out or those 2 will have you looking and thinking about the 'dark side'.

:)

Oh, yes, I am sure the constant smack talk about our inefficient OC rigs will be non-stop. We've rented the compressor/booster shack at Hunts for the week, and are having a slew of HE and O2 tanks delivered for the mixing. Already in the emails there is the head-shaking at how much gas we will use (I think Andrew said something about, "3 years worth" for him), and the amount of time/money/energy we will spend mixing every night while they are enjoying a nice dinner out, and how we are on our own and stuff like that. :D

Why not use Dive Tech? They are a state of the art, top notch tech shop right in Mallorytown. Will you be diving from the US side?

As far as CCR vs. OC ... one need only mention the recent very unfortunate accident at Jackson Blue.

Yup, US side. I don't know why Hunts - the instructors arranged it. I do know that we like the idea of having our own exclusive access 24/7 to our own compressor and booster. Do you know the shop? From what I'm told, our HE and O2 tanks will be down in a separate building (shack?), where our O2 and HE will be stored away from everyone else. Our gas costs are less than half by doing our own mixing (which is what we do here at home anyway, so we're used to it). Once you spend $60.00 for a T of HE, it's hard to part with more than that for just one fill.

I was up there in Aug for Adv. Nitrox/Deco. but we were on the Ontario side. I'm not familiar with the US side. It's a pretty remote area so I have no doubt your instructors set you guys up with the best option the area has to offer. It's very possibly the only option in the area.
