For reasons that Ross has articulated, the debates over deep stops in decompression diving (particularly deeper mixed gas technical dives) and a single deep safety stop during ascent from a no decompression recreational dive should not be mixed up.
To clarify the discussion on deep safety stops on no decompression dives, there are two relevant studies. Without going into detail, one [1] (cited by tomfcrist) supported a recreational deep stop (lower bubble counts), and a second [2], did not (higher bubble counts).
I do not feel strongly about it and the evidence is in a state of equipoise.
