Deep Sea Supply vs Transplate BP&W

Hi All,

My husband wants a BP&W set up and we're trying to decide between a Deep Sea Supply and Transplate. I dive a Transpac and love it so I'm a little biased so I thought I'd put it out that for SB to help with. What do you think? Pros/Cons to each?

From everything I've read here over the past three months, opinions seem to point to DSS. I don't think I've read one complaint about them. The DSS system has some great options/additions too.

Call Tobin at DSS at 626-799-5078. From what I've read, he's a great help in this type of choice.

I dove a transpac for about 15 years and recently changed to a transplate. As far as comfort goes they feel identical, except the Transplate is way more stable in any position. I love the transplate. If you loved the transpac, the transplate will be awesome for you. One word of caution. I went with the Stainless backplate, and it was too much weight for my doubles configuration in a wetsuit. In a drysuit it's just fine. If I had to do it again, I'd probably choose the aluminum backplate. But the transplate is just awesome. If you buy it, pay the extra 5 bucks to have it assembled.

I was on the fence about DSS as well. Having started with a Hollis setup I was concerned about how Tobin's designs and manufacturing process differed from everyone else. After talking and visiting with Tobin I can honestly say I am hooked. I absolutely love my DSS plate and wing. The equipment is incredibly well thought out and made. When you talk to Tobin you are talking to not just the owner but chief designer and manufacturer. Tobin lives and breathes this stuff. The differences between a DSS setup and others are the differences born of decades of diving all different types of gear.

I'm going to get a DSS wing as soon as I can. As far as recommending it, well i haven't dove it yet but as soon as I do I will be posting on all the forums.

The unfortunate part is that I have to wait until spring to afford it.

I'll put my vote firmly in the DSS camp as well!

Tobin was very patient with my many questions prior to purchase. We had never owned any type of BC and went straight to BP/W after a lot of research.

I particularly like the fact the DSS plates are not "1 size fits all" as I'm 6'4" - the Long plate is awesome for me.

Great product with some very nice little differences over the "normal" plates that really make a difference IMHO.
