Aside from the sly tactics of Bay Breeze Dive Center on here, I've experienced horrible service, and sometimes irresponsibly cared for rental gear, each of the three times I've been in. Two of those trips being just for convenient tank rentals. I'm not going to go into specifics of the issues but I highly recommend that fellow divers avoid this shop not only for their convenience but also for their personal safety. I honestly hope to see this business fail or either have new management come in, and soon.

I love SB too but if this sort of behavior is condoned by SB administration, either actively or passively, the very underpinning of the message board is questionable. Based on my knowledge and reading of certain posts in the lawsuit threads (related a person with the initials G. H.) and the fact that appeals were made to board members for support of free speech, I am disturbed that this sort of thing would be tolerated, regardless of which sub-forum and regardless of how much traffic it receives.

Certainly the ScubaBoard administration is not going to ask for support in their fight against speech-chilling legal actions while tolerating the same thing under their own noses.

To sum it up in two words:

"Oh, snap!"

This is the second or third time I have heard someone say something about the dive club ripping them off. One guy said they were promised free air fills, is that correct?

I have gone into that dive shop a few times. I use to go more until they figured out that steel 72s weren't suppose to be filled to 3000 psi. Hetland sounds like he has a personal issue with the shop BUT others are supporting the claim that there is something wrong across the bay. Fortunately Pensacola has 3 other LDS so I will be supporting the others. For me, I really like DivePros but have heard good things about MBT as well. No reason to support a suspect business with so many options.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

Attention...

The forum in question is a private club which is hosted here on Scubaboard. It is moderated by the person in charge of the club, in much the same way that the manufacturer forums are hosted and moderated by their own staff. They may moderate or delete posts as they see fit. In other words, normal Scubaboard Mods do not actively participate in the moderation of those areas. However, we are still responsible for the board at large, and as such, we want to ensure that even those private areas still comply with the spirit of the board.

As a result of some of the recent deficits that have been brought to our attention, we have implemented some changes to help prevent a recurrence. Should anyone encounter any further problems, I would strongly suggest that the posts in question be reported, along with a detailed description of the problem so we can investigate and make a decision. This does not mean that we will override a decision made by a forum mod, just that we will make sure that their decisions follow the spirit of our ToS.

This particular matter is now considered closed. If anyone has any further concerns please feel free to report the post or contact one of our moderation team members privately.

From the 'for what's worth' department I had an issue with the forum in question and the forum mods (not the club mod) were quick to jump in and take corrective actions including editing wfdc_scuba's post. Further from the 'for what's worth' I have heard the club head accuse hetland of working at another dive shop in a nearby town. I know the guys that work there and I asked them point blank about this. They assure me he does not work there. I have no reason to doubt them...of course, I am also just a bunch of 1s and 0s on the internet...so....

Salty, I don't work for ANY dive shop. The only money I make from any diving-related activity is selling my old dive gear, and, I found $4 underwater one time. I'm pretty sure that still puts me at a deficit when compared to what I shell out.

I don't have a problem with the shop in question either (see my post #9 above). I was once a member of the club, but I don't think I've bought so much as a snorkel keeper there, and I have personally never been mistreated by them, or any of their staff. I've made every effort to keep their name, and even the name of the sub-fourm out of public discussion. My complaint has to do with changing posts, which I think is wrong.

Cave Diver tells me this won't be a problem anymore. That's good enough for me.

I just wish there was a shop closer to Navarre. With the new snorkle/SCUBA park, it would be great not having to drive to PNS or down to FWB for fills.
