what are the problems that have solutions when you need to decompress?.

Had a leak in drysuit, was cold as F@k. 'Luckily' my catheter had come off and when I relieved myself, it got all warm.

I'm guessing this was not the kind of solution he was hoping for.;)

A mermaid turned me into a newt while on a deco hang once. But I got better. :D

Knob fell off O2 bottle during a dive!

That happened to me on my first 200' dive (a class dive). Started over to swap bottles with the support diver when it occurred to me that I had managed to open the valve before the handle fell off. So I just did my deco off that bottle and fixed the valve handle after the dive.

No problem ...

I find the answers very interesting, because they seem to exemplify something that my cave instructor said to me: "We hope that, when you run into a problem in your subsequent cave diving, you'll shrug and say, 'Oh, THIS again . . . '" It appears that all the people who have listed problems have had exactly that reaction, which means that training is accomplishing what it should.

O2 combustion, fortunately it didn't fry the first stage, but left the inside of the valve sooty.

Apart from Freddie's relief ;), they are deco reg issues. Get the most flood/crap tolerate deco reg you can, a simple piston reg like a mk2.

Its still a somewhat stressful pita when you have this issues. The only good thing is that by the time you're on deco you are in the off-gassing zone (pretty much regardless of what you happen to be breathing) and at such a reduced ATAs that running out of all breathable gas is a much reduced concern. So taking a few minutes to deal with it isn't that big a deal. Whereas taking 5 minutes to deal with a problem (at even a slightly elevated RMV) on the bottom can really cascade into near disaster fast.

Had my deep deco reg get unpressurized which allowed water into the first and it froze shut, would not give me any gas. Also have had a few free flows which are no big deal as you can just feather the valve this has all been in 38 degree water.

Had a timer fail again no big deal as I had a second.

I was spearfishing in the gulf and shot about a 80 lb AJ in 175' fsw. I blew off about 5 min of deco due to a very "friendly" tiger shark. I figure the tables and computers are based on theory, shark bite is for real. No issues though.
